Overview

The Opportunity

Data Centre developers increasingly need firm power faster than the grid can provide it. Natural gas can supply that power, but produced gas often contains CO₂ that must be removed before use, and the separated CO₂ needs a responsible pathway.

This engagement considers the chain as one system: gas treatment and CO₂ separation, CO₂ management, onsite power generation and delivery of reliable electricity to a mission-critical Data Centre load.

The Challenge

Engineering Questions That Shape the Outcome

  • Matching gas supply to a flat, growing Data Centre load
  • Meeting fuel specifications for the selected generation technology
  • Selecting a CO₂ separation route for the gas composition
  • Accounting for upstream and combustion CO₂ separately
  • Reaching Data Centre availability targets with onsite power
  • Balancing capital cost, energy penalty and technical risk

Our Approach

How We Are Approaching the Work

Gas Treatment & CO₂ Separation

Screening of separation technologies against specification, energy and cost.

CO₂ Management Pathway

Conditioning and the options for transport, storage or utilisation.

Power Generation Integration

Generation options compared on efficiency, ramping, redundancy and emissions.

Reliability & Storage

Availability analysis and the role of battery storage.

Integrated System Model

One set of mass, energy and emissions balances across the chain.

Techno-Economic & Risk Analysis

Cost screening, sensitivity and technical risk.

    Applications

    Where This Engineering Applies

    Prime Onsite Power

Treated gas supplying generation that carries the Data Centre load continuously.

    Bridging Power

Onsite generation that energises a campus while grid capacity is built.

    Hybrid Microgrid

Gas generation, fuel cells and storage dispatched together to meet availability targets.

    Lower-Carbon Gas Supply

Gas treated with its separated CO₂ stored, and combustion CO₂ evaluated for capture.
